People in Toronto already add “reddit” to the end of their food searches, because a stranger’s honest comment is worth more than a wall of five-star reviews. The problem is that Reddit is hard to search and impossible to add up. You can read ten threads about ramen and still not know which place people overall think is best.

UpvoteEats does the adding up. It reads what people said in r/FoodToronto and the food threads of r/askTO and r/toronto, and turns it into rankings you can browse by dish, neighbourhood and cuisine. The methodology page explains exactly how.

Toronto is the first edition. More cities are coming, which is why the name leaves the city out.

What we won’t do

• Take money to move a restaurant up or down. There is no paid placement, and there never will be.
• Show usernames. Quotes are short excerpts that link back to the original comment.
• Keep anything you deleted. Deleted and removed comments drop off on the next refresh.
• Sell or license the data.
